The Best Grain-Free Recipe for Crackers: Why Flax and Chia Seeds Are a Game Changer.
Ok, I’m not going to lie and say I prefer these crackers to the lovely crusty bread I can no longer eat.
Well, I could still eat bread instead of grain free crackers, but I’m really tired of having a bloated mid-section!
And every time I give up bread, I am lost.
What, for example, can I have with my scrambled eggs in the morning if not toast?
So bread abstinence never lasts long – I slip back into, well I’ll just have half a slice.
We all know how that ends up don’t we! Before I know it, I’m back on the sandwiches, toast and the delicious curry pasties we get in National Trust cafes in the UK.
So this time, I decided I needed to find a grain free crackers recipe that staved off my bread habit.
And it’s worked! And I made a video over on YouTube showing how I made them.
These grain free crackers are really tasty, and, they are so filling, I can’t eat many at a time.
They make me feel full really quickly – possibly because of the flax and chia seeds in them.
And the good news is, my mid-section, which was bigger than my lean pre-menopause years, has shrunk dramatically without the bloaty bread in it!
So if you’re on the hunt for a wholesome, crunchy snack that doesn’t rely on grains, you’re in the right place. Whether you’re eating low-carb, gluten-free, paleo, or just trying to clean up your pantry, a grain-free recipe for crackers made with flax seeds and chia seeds checks all the boxes.
These naturally gluten-free crackers are full of nutrients, super satisfying, and incredibly easy to make. Plus, they’re free from processed ingredients, refined flours, and added sugars — which makes them a smart and versatile option for healthy snacking.
Why Choose a Grain-Free Recipe for Crackers?
Traditional crackers are often made with refined wheat flour, preservatives, and artificial flavorings.
A grain-free recipe for crackers on the other hand, skips all of that. Instead, it focuses on whole-food ingredients like seeds, herbs, and natural seasonings.
Choosing grain-free possibly not only supports better digestion, but it is also thought it helps with blood sugar balance, inflammation, and even energy levels throughout the day.
Eating these crackers instead of bread is definitely impacting my blood sugar control in a positive way.
But of course, I’m not a doctor and can only say what my experience is – yours may be different.
Flax Seeds: Tiny Seeds, Big Benefits

Flax seeds are the cornerstone of many healthier cracker recipes. Apparently, they’re one of the best plant-based sources of omega-3 fatty acids, particularly ALA, which supports heart and brain health.
They’re also packed with lignans — powerful antioxidants that may help with hormonal balance and disease prevention.
Best of all, flax seeds are rich in fiber. This keeps you feeling full, supports healthy digestion, and can help lower cholesterol.
Why Chia Seeds Work So Well in Crackers

Chia seeds are another superstar ingredient in any good grain-free cracker recipe.
They absorb water and form a gel, which helps hold the cracker together naturally — no eggs or binders needed.
Chia is also rich in fiber, healthy fats, plant protein, and antioxidants. The combo of flax and chia creates a deliciously crispy texture with plenty of crunch and flavor.
A Quick Overview of a Grain-Free Recipe for Crackers

Making your own grain-free flax and chia seed crackers is easier than you might think. All you need are a few simple ingredients:-
- 1/3 Cup of ground flax seeds
- 1/3 Cup of milled chia seeds
- 1/3 Cup of shelled Hemp seeds
- 1/3 Cup of milled mixed seeds and nuts
- A good pinch of hot chilli powder to suit your taste
- Ground Cumin powder to suit your taste
- Celtic sea salt to taste
- 1 cup of grated hard Goat’s cheese
- 4 Tablespoons of cold water
Mix the ingredients into a dough, spread it thin on a baking sheet, score it, and bake until crispy.
Or, you can do what I did (see my YouTube video) and roll out the dough, cut into circles with a cookie cutter and cook on a closed griddle.
That’s it! You get a clean, nourishing snack with zero grains, gluten, or guilt.
